How it works

From utility data to verified energy performance

One continuous engineering lifecycle: data arrives from utilities and meters, Kilovanta AI establishes normalized baselines and models ECMs, and your engineering team verifies savings and settles performance fees.

Swipe through steps →

  • 01

Ingest utility data & meter telemetry

Utility bills, 15-minute interval AMI feeds, BAS trend logs, and signed Letters of Agency are ingested. Kilovanta AI reconciles meter boundaries and rate structures automatically.

  • 02

AI engineers baselines & ECM proposals

Automated regression establishes weather-normalized baselines, identifies interval anomalies, benchmarks chiller efficiency, and drafts bankable ECM proposals with payback returns.

  • 03

Field execution & verified performance settlement

Onboarding is a separate one-time fee, set out below.

Onboarding

What your onboarding fee covers

A one-time setup that gets your energy consulting practice fully live before the first monthly cycle — we import facility inventories, utility tariff schedules and historical interval meter datasets, configure utility LOA and billing intake workflows, seed IPMVP baseline templates, and align Dashboard, Intake, Energy Audits, Proposals, Field Operations, Verification, Compliance and Billing around your engineering delivery model. Each fee below is a starting point: the final onboarding is scoped once we understand your utility data integrations, compliance filings, security requirements and deployment environment.

How it runs

Two ways to run Kilovanta AI — same platform, same ongoing subscription price. Only the onboarding may differ by your requirements.

Cloud (SaaS)

Runs in Nestack's managed cloud — the fastest path to go-live. We handle hosting, continuous meter data ingestion scaling, updates, and maintenance so your energy analysts log in and start working immediately without standing up dedicated infrastructure.

Private / self-hosted

The same platform deployed inside your own cloud, VPC or on-premises environment. Sensitive utility account credentials, smart meter interval telemetry, and confidential facility SLDs never leave your security boundary, while the ongoing subscription price stays the same.

Common questions

Your questions. Answered plainly.

Bringing new software into an energy practice raises fair questions. These are the ones energy directors and procurement ask us before they subscribe.

01What does the subscription cost, and what is included?

One monthly subscription for your whole practice — not per seat or per module. It covers all eight modules, from intake and energy audits through proposals, field operations, M&V, compliance and billing, for every engagement you run in Kilovanta AI. Energy engineers, program managers and field crews work from the same engagement record, at the rate shown in pricing above. Onboarding is a separate one-time fee (from $1,000+ depending on tier).

02What else will we pay for beyond the monthly fee?

Three things, all set out before you sign. Onboarding is a one-time fee scoped to your data, integrations and deployment. AI usage is charged separately: you recharge an AI credit balance and it draws down as you use it, so AI cost tracks the work you actually run. Metering hardware, installation and integrations are quoted separately, and only if you need them.

03Does private hosting cost more than your cloud?

No. The monthly subscription is the same whether you run in our managed cloud or inside your own VPC or on-premises environment. Only the one-time onboarding scope may differ, because a private deployment takes more setup on your side.

04Will our savings figures hold up when a client, utility or regulator challenges them?

That is what Kilovanta AI is built for. Baselines, routine and non-routine adjustments and reporting-period data stay linked to the measures and meter data behind them, following IPMVP, so every savings number traces back to its source. When a shared-savings payment or incentive claim is questioned, the evidence is already assembled instead of rebuilt from spreadsheets. The platform supports your M&V process; sign-off stays with your engineers.

05Is our customers' utility and meter data safe — and can we keep it in our own environment?

In our managed cloud, customer data is access-controlled, encrypted in transit and at rest, and logged. We support GDPR processor obligations (DPA, sub-processors, data-subject requests). We are not ISO/IEC 27001 certified. When a customer contract or utility data agreement requires it, the same product runs in your VPC or on-premises at the same monthly subscription.

06Do you use our customers' data to train AI?

No. Kilovanta AI does not use your meter data, audit reports or customer identities to train foundation models. AI outputs such as anomaly flags, draft proposals and filing packs are meant for review by your team before they reach a customer, utility or regulator.

07We already run on spreadsheets, utility portals and shared drives. Why switch?

Because that is where engagements stall. Utility data requests sit in email threads, baselines get rebuilt in a new workbook for every project, commissioning photos live on technicians' phones, filings are pulled together by hand the week they are due, and settlement means matching savings to invoices line by line. One system of record from intake to settlement means less time chasing data and reconciling numbers, and more time on billable engineering work.

08When should we expect value after go‑live?

From the first monthly cycle, the change shows up in the day-to-day: utility access requests are tracked instead of chased, baselines are reused rather than rebuilt, and compliance deadlines are visible before they become urgent. The gains grow as more of your sites and engagements live in the platform instead of in individual workbooks.

09How do we go from interested to live?

Book a demo, choose cloud or private deployment and an onboarding tier, and we configure your workspace around how your practice runs. Onboarding covers kickoff, import of your active customers, sites and engagements, connecting the tools you already use, and training matched to your tier, with a readiness review before your first full monthly cycle. Enterprise adds a named onboarding lead and an agreed go‑live date.

10What should we have ready for the demo?

Nothing is required, but the demo is sharper with a few real inputs: a list of the utility accounts and sites you manage, a sample of interval or billing data, a recent audit or M&V report, and the reporting deadlines you work to. We will walk through one of your engagements end to end and scope onboarding from there.
